Tomáš Kalina is an expert in cytometry and an academic at the Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and Motol and Homolka University Hospital, where he leads applied research projects focused on improving the diagnosis and monitoring of treatment success in blood malignancies and immunodeficiency, as well as on the search for new targets for targeted drugs. He is the author of more than 120 scientific publications and more than 50 invited lectures at international congresses, and has organised educational seminars across Europe. He is an active member of the committee of the EuroFlow consortium, a successful continuation of the EU-STREP European project, which now has 17 member laboratories and is the leading academic driving force of innovation in clinical cytometry. He created and leads the external quality assurance programme (EuroFlow QA), followed by educational activities involving 75 laboratories from around the world (52 from Europe). He is co-author of internationally licensed patents for kits diagnosing primary immunodeficiencies and detecting residual disease in T-ALL. Diagnostic procedures developed by the EuroFlow consortium are now established in diagnostic practice in haematology and immunology and are manufactured under licence by Waters Biosciences, USA. He has repeatedly received awards from professional societies, and in 2022 he was awarded the Joseph T. Trotter "Leader in Cytometry Technology" award by the international society ISAC in Philadelphia, USA. In 2023 he received the František Běhounek Award from the Minister of Education for spreading the good name of Czech science in Europe.

Šárka Šímová is VDOC's project and coordination manager. After completing her doctoral studies, she moved from laboratory research into science support. For many years she worked mainly at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where she was involved in preparing and administering grant projects, organising the PhD programme, and contributing to the preparation and implementation of strategic institute-wide activities. She also gained experience in managing the large research infrastructure CZ-OPENSCREEN. She briefly worked at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague as a project administrator. Between 2022 and 2026 she worked at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where she coordinated the National Institute of Virology and Bacteriology project. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Science of Charles University and holds a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology, genetics and virology.
